ENTRY LEVEL

An open process will be posted at:  www.policeapp.com/skpd 

Entry level applicant minimum qualifications to apply:

  • at least 18 years of age
  • a citizen of the United States
  • possess a valid driver’s license
  • possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • be able to speak, read and write the English language

Entry level candidate must successfully pass each step before being moved to the next step:

  • Physical agility test 
  • SKPD written exam
  • Swim proficiency test
  • Panel interview
  • Chief’s interview
  • Comprehensive background investigation
  • Medical and physical screening
  • Psychological test

A pool of entry level applicants will be kept on file for one year at the end of the panel interview process.

 

POST CERTIFIED

An open process will be posted at: www.policeapp.com/skpd  

POST certified applicant minimum qualifications:

  • at least 18 years of age
  • a citizen of the United States
  • possess a valid driver’s license
  • possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • be able to speak, read and write the English language
  • current RI POST or out-of-state POST certification, in good standing

(out-of-state POST certified applicants will need to attend a portion of the RI Municipal Police Training Academy to attain RI POST certification, once hired)

POST certified process

  • Incident report writing sample
  • Swim proficiency test
  • Panel interview
  • Chief’s interview
  • Comprehensive background investigation
  • Medical and physical screening
  • Psychological test
